Personal Web Space

Community Web provides 2 MB of space for a personal web page.  In order to use this space, you must first create your web page.  On our system, the main page should be named home.htm.  Save your page in a location on either your hard drive or a floppy disk where you will be able to find it again.  NOTE:  Community Web does not offer support for creating free web pages.  There are a wide variety of books available to help you with creating a web page.

First, you will need to download an FTP program to your hard drive.  We recommend WSFTP for customers using Windows.  You may download this program from www.wsftp.com.  You may download the evaluation version, which is free for 30 days.  After 30 days, you must purchase the package in order to continue to use it.   Macintosh customers use a program called Fetch.  Information on Fetch can be found here.

Once you have created you web page and downloaded your FTP program, you will need to transfer your files to the server.

If your email address is @asheboro.com,

In order to do this, you will use your FTP program to connect to the location members.asheboro.com.   First, dial in to Community Web and get connected to the Internet.  Then start your FTP program and connect to members.asheboro.com.  Once you connect to our   server, you will be asked for a login name and password.  Use the login name and password for your main internet account.  This will take you to your directory on our server.  You may then use your FTP program to transfer your web page files to our server.  For more information on how to do this, check the Help section of your software.

After all of your files have been transferred, exit out of the FTP program.

If you have transferred your pages correctly, you should be able to view your personal page by going to www.asheboro.com/users/username (replace username with your own login name for your main account).  To view the page, use your normal web browser, Netscape or Internet Explorer.

If your email address is @communityweb.net,

In order to do this, you will use your FTP program to connect to the location members.communityweb.net.   First, dial in to Community Web and get connected to the Internet.  Then start your FTP program and connect to members.communityweb.net.
