BUILD'N FENCES(102KB)

We'd go out in our woods with axe and saw,
Hunt'n cedars for make'n good posts;
With a fence to build, we wanted dead trees,
Stand'n gray and look'n like ghosts.

We'd chop 'em down and cut off the limbs,
Amazed at the way they growed;
Two strides marked the place to use the saw,
And soon we had us a load.

We hand-dug the holes thru rocks and roots,
Cause'n many a blister and pain;
We'd set the posts and pack 'em tight,
Put'n dirt back from whence it came.

Complete'n four holes and posts in an hour,
Was 'bout our usual rate;
Soon we'd be ready for stretch'n the wire,
And last came build'n the gate.

Yes, build'n fences was often hard work,
Of this, there can be no doubt;
Fences worked good for keep'n our cows in,
And keep'n the neighbor's bull.....OUT!
