When haircuts cost a quarter,
And a sack of candy just a dime;
All the stories we were told,
Happened "Once upon a time..".
There was thumb-shoot'n marbles,
While crouched upon our knees;
And perform'n tricks with Yo-Yos,
Was one sure way to please.
Our shoes were saved for Sundays,
Walk'n barefoot the dusty roads;
And real fun came from chase'n girls,
With a warty hoppy-toad.
There was water-skip'n flat rocks,
Across a farm pond wide;
Play'n baseball in cow-pastures,
Be'n careful where we slide.
Our sticky hands from taffy-pulls,
And trips to the "Five-and-Ten";
It truly seems like a lifetime,
From now to way back then.
So when I want to reminisce,
I know just where they are;
These memories I've stored away,
Like pennies in a jar.
